Post & Go – Work in progress
I return again to the Post and Go facilities being installed at some Post offices. The Post and Go labels have already been changed. The example on the left below was from December 2008 and featured in the February Bulletin and the one on the right is from February 2009 and as you can see, there are perforations at top and bottom.
I mentioned last time that the only way to get second class was to weight the item and acquire a Post and Go label of the type above. It seems this is necessary because the Fast Stamps, to give them their proper name, which are available for 1st Class letters, large letters and overseas mail, also detailed last time, have two phosphor bands. Second class only needs one and so two rolls of Fast Stamps would be required, meaning three ways of printing from the machines.
In fact there are already three ways if you include receipts with the Post and Go Labels and, Fast Stamps. The receipts have also changed. The example overleaf left is from February 2009 and has the Post Office logo at the top and the example right is from December 2008 and is without the logo. These receipts give the date Post Office address, date, time, branch ID, Kiosk ID and the Session ID as well as detailing your purchase and the amount paid.
It appears that there are already some counterfeit or forged covers on sale relating to the Fast Stamps. A set allegedly from the Bristol Galleries Post Office on the first day of issue 8th October 2008 are doing the rounds with a Glasgow cancel and an impossible session number for the date on the base of the Fast Stamps
