Minutes of the EGM at Somerset House on Monday 1st December 2008
Apologies for absence: Denys Gage, Reg Smith, John Thame, Mike Thatcher, John Williams.
1. The President Bob Van Goethem opened the meeting by welcoming members and setting out the purpose of the meeting, which was to discuss the revised Rules and Constitution of the Society and to ask members to vote on acceptance of the revisions. Members had seen a copy of the Rules and Constitution in the September Bulletin and had been given notice of the meeting but copies were made available.
2.1 The meeting was then handed over to Derek Rock who had worked on the revisions with Council. He ran through the changes with reasoning and questions were taken from the floor.
2.1.1 George Goodall asked about the rules for calling an EGM and it was explained an EGM could be called on the request of 10 members or by Council. The latter applied in this case.
3. Members were asked to vote on the revisions and the changes were accepted unanimously.
4. Bob Van Goethem then took the time to explain some of the changes taking place within the Exchange Branch and informed members more details would appear in future editions of the Bulletin. John Dennett is working on contacting members within postcode areas to try and group members for passing on packets by hand.
20 members were present
The EGM closed at 1820 and the Grand Auction commenced.
