The Bulletin of the
Civil Service Philatelic Society
Founded 1948
1948 - 2008
No. 432 September 2008
Editor’s Introduction
Time flies and here is the third Bulletin for 2008 but this is my longest. This edition contains the AGM Minutes. I was asked where we meet, so a map is included this time. The Society is sorry to record the passing of Messrs R J F Bellamy, DRL Holloway and DP Jones.
There are details for submitting lots to the Postal Auction, which Denys Gage will be ably running for us once again, so get hunting and submit your lots by the end of October. The auction was lightly supported this year, see Denys’s AGM report, so please come forward and submit material. I realise that members will only bid for material they are interested in but there must be a lot of additional good material that could be put forward in the auction in the first place. Single items, especially older GB material, seem to sell well as the bidder knows what they are bidding for so clear descriptions also help vendors to sell.
Thank you to those who passed on comments about our Special Diamond Jubilee Bulletin. As usual my proof reading skills left a lot to be desired and I must apologise to Brian Viner for spelling his name incorrectly, twice! On the back page I also made an error with the 1948 Olympic set description, as there was no 4d value but a 3d, a mistake made under the pictures of the stamps. Following the layout of the Jubilee edition, I have decided to go for a full page format again. This is actually much easier to assemble and edit.
